MPS Bisht and Piyush Rautela had told in a research that there are many reasons behind this landslide. The presence of Joshimath on the Central Himalayas in the Main Central Thrust area is believe to the biggest reason for this. According to MPS Bisht, director of the Uttarakhand Space Application Center, most of the villages in Uttarakhand are situate at an altitude of 1900 to 2500 meters. These villages is also locate in the areas in the Indian and Tibetan Plates, which is present in the Main Central Thrust. Small earthquakes here, soil erosion due to water are also believe to be the reason for this danger. In this, both Alaknanda River and Dhauliganga River eroding the soil below Joshimath city.

Random construction work on the city and tunnel construction work are also responsible for this. The danger research on Joshimath is not take seriously, due to which people are suffering today. The local people are even saying that the whole city is now suffering due to indiscriminate development. The hill state is bearing the brunt of development. The Chamoli Police Administration also conduct an on-the-spot inspection. While the Secretary, Disaster Management and the team also conduct an inspection in Joshimath late in the evening. Even today this team is inspecting other wards including Manohar ward. People are shift to safer places.
