Preparation for China’s BF 7 Variant, India is Isolating All Samples for Test efficacy
Covid-19 India : India has successfully isolated a sample of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which contains BF.7. It is a sub-variant of the Omicron variant, which is suspect to be behind the surge in Covid-19 cases in several countries including China. According to ‘The Times of India’, government sources said that the isolated samples are being test to assess the effect of the available vaccines. A source said, “Scientists are investigating whether currently available vaccines are effective in preventing infection or severe disease cause by the new sub-variant.”

Covid-19 India : 4 Cases of New Variant
Since July, four cases of Covid-19 have report in India due to the BF.7 variant. Sources said that three cases have report from Gujarat and one such case has confirm from Odisha. He said that all four patients had no symptoms of this variant or had mild symptoms. All four of them recover from the disease.
First Patient Found in Ahmedabad
The first case was reported in July, where a 60-year-old man in Ahmedabad was found to Covid positive and his sample show the sub-variant BF.7. State health department officials said that he had cough and mild fever. The second case in Ahmedabad was that of a 57-year-old man from Sola area.
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Said
Officials of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said that this person is currently in Australia after recovering. He said that the close contacts of the case have not develoy any symptoms. The person had dry cough along with mild fever. In Vadodara, the sub-variant was detect in the sample of a 61-year-old woman who had return from the US. She come to the city on 11 September and her test came positive on 18 September. Since he was showing symptoms related to Covid, he was advise to get test.

Covid-19 India : What Did Experts Says
In Odisha, the BF.7 sub-variant is find in a 57-year-old woman, officials said. The woman got the Covid test done as she had to travel to America. He said that there were no symptoms in the woman. Experts said that the sub-variant is responsible for the surge in new Covid cases in many countries of the world including China, Japan and South Korea.
It will take some more time for India to assess its impact. “The reproduction value of BF.7 is more than 10, which means that one person infect with the variant can infect at least 10 others,” said Dr NK Mehra, an emeritus scientist at ICMR.
